Communicate a clear UX strategy
We should communicate an overall customer experience strategy, and goals that are specific to user experience. This strategy will help unify our approach and rationale for our roadmap and should match industry best practices.
Encourage early UX involvement
We should constantly and consistently encourage internal and external stakeholders to engage with the UX team early in the product development process. As our company moves to a more user-centered approach, we want the UX team to engage in ideation, requirements, concept explorations, as well as the execution phase.
Communicate and prioritize the EDME Roadmap
If we understand what our our business unit has committed to and why, then we can better support those goals. We should all have a shared understanding of what our top priorities are and why — with ruthless prioritization of our backlog. We should have fixed capacity, and for any new projects that come in, another has to come out or be delayed. (rework, make more positive) We can only make a meaningful impact if we stop trying to do everything, and instead focus on what matters. UX should be part of that perspective.
Leverage the power of research
We should encourage stakeholders to test designs early and often. We want to make informed decisions so we are building the right solutions for our customers, solving for unmet and unstated needs, in order to create delight rather than simply satisfaction. We need to drive differentiation as well as iteration, by gathering insights using all of the methodologies at our disposal.
Drive towards a cohesive experience
We should continually drive us towards a more holistic vision of the end-to-end digital experience. How can we better converge our various journeys away from the fragmented, federated experience we have today, into a more cohesive and personalized one that drives engagement and revenue?
Evangelize the ROI of UX
We should educate stakeholders and stress the importance of UX design and research across the organization and encourage less dependency on outside agencies. Our involvement can make the difference between launching something mediocre vs. launching something great. We should be tying UX directly to revenue and ROI, and actively demonstrating the value UX delivers by tracking against predefined metrics.
