Starting August 30, 2017, American Express will be introducing Plan It, a new feature that provides Card Members the flexibility to pay large purchases over a fixed period of time. Eligible Card Members will receive a letter with their June billing statement letting them know the specific date they can start using Plan It. Please see below for some frequently asked questions.
You can plan purchases of $100 or more, except for purchases of cash or cash equivalent, balance transfers, purchases subject to foreign transaction fees or any fee owed to us.
You’ll be offered 1-3 plan duration options for a qualifying purchase. Plan duration options can vary based on a variety of factors such as your creditworthiness, the purchase amount, and your Account History.
No. Instead, you’ll pay a monthly plan fee for the duration of your plan that will be disclosed upfront.
Plans can’t be cancelled after they’ve been set up, but you can choose to pay them early by paying the New Balance shown on your most recent billing statement in full. If you pay off a plan early, you won’t incur any further plan fees on that plan.
The monthly Plan Payment Due, which is the total of your monthly plan payments on all plans, is automatically included in the Minimum Payment Due each month.
You’ll see an Adjusted Balance on your account whenever you have active plans. This amount includes your monthly Plan Payment Due and the non-plan portion of your Remaining Statement Balance. It doesn’t include plan payments due in future months. If you pay the Adjusted Balance by your payment due date each month, you’ll avoid interest charges on the purchases you haven’t planned.
No. Using Plan It won’t impact your credit score.
Generally, you can have up to 10 active plans at a time per eligible American Express account but your ability to initiate new plans is based on a variety of factors such as your creditworthiness or your Credit Limit. Also, you will not be able to initiate new plans if you enroll into a debt management program, if you make a payment that is returned unpaid, if your Account is delinquent, or if your Account is cancelled.
No. Only one purchase can be placed into a plan.
Pay It is a payment option available only in the Amex Mobile app. Simply select a posted transaction with a “Pay It” label, and follow the prompts to complete a payment for that amount. Payments are applied against your outstanding balance.
